Thomas Newcomen – Greatest Inventors of All Time No1

August 21, 2023  by  Brian

Newcomen's atmospheric engine was crucial in addressing the problem of flooding in mines.Thomas Newcomen (1663-1729) was an English inventor pivotal to the Industrial Revolution. He designed the atmospheric steam engine, a breakthrough invention for mine drainage.

Newcomen’s engine, operational by 1712, employed steam to create a vacuum, using atmospheric pressure to move a piston and power pumps.

Though less efficient than later designs, it facilitated deeper mining, fueling industry growth. James Watt later enhanced the steam engine, but Newcomen’s innovation laid the foundation for mechanical power’s rise and was crucial for early industrialization.  Read more . . .

Artificial Intelligence AI – Act Now Before It’s Too Late!

August 9, 2023  by  Brian

Watch Out! Artificial Intelligence is coming for your job!Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly developing and becoming more sophisticated. This is having a profound impact on the workforce, as AI is capable of automating many tasks that were once done by humans. This is leading to concerns that AI will displace millions of workers, causing widespread unemployment.

The jobs that are most at risk of being automated are those that are repetitive, predictable, and require low levels of creativity and problem-solving. This includes jobs in manufacturing, customer service, transportation, and retail. However, AI is also creating new jobs. For example, AI-powered companies need software engineers, data scientists, and machine learning experts. These jobs are highly skilled and well-paying.

The future of work is likely to be a mix of human and machine labor. AI will automate many tasks, but it will also create new jobs. The key for workers will be to develop the skills that are in demand in the AI-powered economy.  Read more . . .
